2023 Members’ Winter Juried Show

ABOUT THE JUROR:
Lynne Allen’s work has been exhibited widely nationally and internationally and is included in collections at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art Library, the New York Public Library, New York; the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, among others.  Selected exhibition venues include the Whitney Museum of American Art, The North Dakota Museum of Art, The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, The Virginia Museum of Fine Art, as well as international exhibitions in the Guanlan China Biennial (juror in 2019); the International Printmaking Biennial of Douro, Portugal; The Novosibirsk Print Biennial, Russia; and the International Print Triennial, Tallinn, Estonia. Artist residencies include Senezh House of Artists, USSR; the Guanlan Printmaking Base, China; Caversham Press, Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa; Grafikenshuis, Mariefred, Sweden; the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, VA; Byrdcliffe Artist Residency, NY, as well as artist workshops/lectures abroad (Iceland, Poland, Denmark, China, Slovenia, South Africa, Russia, Sweden).  

Honors include two Fulbright Scholarships (USSR 1990, Jordan 2004-05), two Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Research Grants, a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Grant, and a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Grant, Diploma Award Tallinn International Print Biennial, and a Prilla Smith Brackett Award finalist.

Allen holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Mexico and a Master of Art for Teachers from the University of Washington. Lynne previously served as Director of the School of Visual Art (2006-15) and as Dean ad interim of the Boston University College of Fine Arts (2015-17. Prior to coming to Boston University, she was Professor of Art at Rutgers University, Director of the Brodsky Center (formerly the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper), and Master Printer and Educational Director at Tamarind Institute.

CATEGORY/MEDIA:

Open to all media and disciplines, however reproductions of original work and Giclee prints cannot be accepted.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • All work must be original, completed within the last five years, and must have not been exhibited in a previous NAA Fall, Winter, or Regional Juried Show.
  • All work must be for sale. We do not accept works on loan from any private collection.
  • Digital image submissions must be high resolution (300 ppi or higher), sized between 540 px and 4800 px.
  • 2D works must be framed and ready to hang with screw eyes or D-rings and wire. Metal frames must have hardware that screws securely in the track.
  • Plexiglas or glass-covered drawings, prints, photographs, and watercolors are accepted.
  • Frameless glass or plexiglass, frames with tension, or saw-tooth hangers cannot be accepted.
  • Photos printed on metal with proper hanging hardware are accepted.
  • Gallery wrapped canvas must be stapled on the back. Gessoed or painted sides are acceptable.
  • Framed dimensions no larger than 60 inches on any one side. Sculpture and 3-dimensional work must be between less than 7 feet in height, 90 pounds or less, and fit within a 3x3 foot area. 
  • No wet paintings.

 

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: 

  • When providing dimensions, if the work is framed, please input the framed dimensions.
  • Digital submissions only. You may enter up to a maximum of three works of art in JPEG (.jpg) format. The image should include the submission only and should exclude any mat, frame, and background, unless integral to the work.
  • One image per work. 3D entries may include one additional digital image per work.
  • All accepted work is subject to review and must comply with Newburyport Art framing standards. No artwork substitution is allowed.
  • Submission of your entry constitutes your agreement with all the terms of this Call for Entry.
  • Submission of your entry acknowledges the right of Newburyport Art to reproduce artwork for marketing purposes.
  • Newburyport Art reserves the right to decline a submission for any reason or to remove a selected work for any reason.

NAA Artist Members: $23.00 per entry

SALES AND INSURANCE

All work must be for sale. Artists retain a commission of 60% for works sold. Every effort will be made to issue artist commission payments within 30 days from the closing of the exhibition. Newburyport Art retains a commission of 40% for works sold. Works will be handled with all possible care. Newburyport Art provides insurance up to 60% of the value declared by the artist, from the day of receipt of the artwork to the final published pickup date. The pickup dates/times will be published and made available to artists as part of the notification emails of successful entry. Newburyport is not responsible for work not picked up after the pickup period.

  • Receiving of accepted works: January 10, 2023 (11am-5pm); January 11, 2023 (11am-7pm); Janaury 12, 2023 (11am-5pm)

  • Reception and Awards Presentation: January 28 or January 29, 2023 (TBD)
  • Final day of exhibition: February 25, 2023
